The German Animal Welfare Federation has developed curriculum-aligned teaching materials on the topic of "Agriculture and Animal Welfare," which can be downloaded free of charge and without registration. The nine fully developed lesson plans are designed for schools and can be used directly in the classroom. The aim is to promote awareness of animal welfare without resorting to shocking images or simplistic moral concepts.

The material is age-appropriate, imparts scientifically sound knowledge, and encourages students to think independently about possible courses of action in everyday life. The teaching units are based on the curricula of the German federal states and have been reviewed by experts to ensure topicality and scientific accuracy. They are specifically designed for elementary, middle, and high school, with lesson plans and worksheets that correspond to the students' developmental stages. The material was developed for the subjects of ethics, geography, and biology, but individual elements are also suitable for use in other subjects.
Knowledge about animal husbandry in food production is of great importance for ethical and ecological reasons. From an ethical perspective, it promotes awareness of responsibility towards animals and their welfare, while from an ecological perspective, it contributes to understanding the impact of agriculture on the environment and making sustainable decisions. The German Animal Welfare Association's program aims to establish animal welfare as a relevant topic in education and to develop students into informed, self-determined stakeholders.
