Starting in the winter semester of 2025/2026, Chemnitz University of Technology will offer a master's program in "Hydrogen Technologies." It is the first of its kind in Germany and is designed to meet the growing demand for skilled workers in the hydrogen economy. The program provides in-depth knowledge of hydrogen and its production, transport, and utilization possibilities. A particular focus is on the engineering development of fuel cell and electrolyzer components and their integration into complete systems.

Students acquire comprehensive knowledge in the design, layout, and integration of individual components and gain practical insights through experimental investigations on state-of-the-art test benches. Open source research platforms for fuel cell and electrolyzer systems developed specifically at Chemnitz University of Technology are also available for this purpose. By integrating other faculties, it has also been possible to integrate future-relevant topics such as sustainable electrical power generation, energy storage technologies, sustainability, and innovation into the curriculum.

The prerequisite for this master's program, which usually begins in the winter semester, is a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Chemnitz University of Technology or a professionally qualifying university degree in an equivalent program.

Career prospects could hardly be better right now. Through the innovation cluster HZwo e.V., in which Chemnitz University of Technology participates, there is a direct connection to more than 150 companies and research institutions worldwide. Whether in technical development, project management, or strategic consulting for renewable energies – there are numerous career opportunities. Chemnitz plays a central role in this, as the city is one of only four locations of the national hydrogen center in Germany and thus a hotspot for research, innovation, and career opportunities in one of the most important fields of the future.
