US government stops subsidies for solar and wind power on agricultural land

By | August 27, 2025

The US administration under President Donald Trump has made a controversial decision that further slows the expansion of renewable energy in the United States. The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) will no longer fund solar and wind power projects on productive farmland. This measure, announced by Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins, marks a clear break with previous policy and is sparking heated debate about the... Continue reading

Base on the Moon: Photovoltaics could provide the energy

By | April 4, 2025

Bringing material into space is very expensive—transporting one kilogram to the moon costs one million euros. Therefore, it makes sense to use locally available resources. To this end, a research team led by Dr. Felix Lang, University of Potsdam, and Dr. Stefan Linke, Technical University of Berlin, combined lunar regolith with ultrathin perovskite to... Project “MoorPower” investigates the effects of solar power on rewetted moors

By | March 24, 2025

Can photovoltaics on rewetted peatlands reduce land-use competition in Germany and make rewetting more attractive for farms? Researchers from the Universities of Greifswald and Hohenheim, together with the Johann Heinrich von Thünen Institute and the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE, aim to answer these questions. The "MoorPower" project will investigate the general feasibility of photovoltaic systems on peatlands combined with simultaneous rewetting. Read more »

CIGS-Pero tandem solar cells: Research team sets new world record

By | February 5, 2025

By combining two semiconductor thin films into a tandem solar cell, high efficiencies can be achieved with a minimal ecological footprint. Teams from the Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin (HZB) and Humboldt University of Berlin have now presented a tandem cell made of CIGS and perovskite that holds a new world record with an efficiency of 24,6%. This value was determined by the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE… Read more »
